Beane Solar Farm

RES has now submitted a planning application for the 49.9MW Beane Solar Farm on land west of Cottered, Hertfordshire. The solar farm would include energy storage to help increase the flexibility and generation opportunities of the site.

The solar farm has been specifically designed to be dual-purpose allowing continued agricultural use in the form of sheep grazing and the production of renewable energy. In addition, significant planting and biodiversity enhancement measures are proposed as part of the application to enhance the existing biodiversity. Through these measures, the proposed solar farm could deliver a 98.40% biodiversity net gain (BNG) for habitat units, 189.90% for hedgerow units, and 10.19% in watercourse units.

Trial trenching works are due to commence on 27 July 2026, on the site of the Beane Solar Farm, and are expected to take around one week to complete.

The trial trenching is being carried out at the request of Hertfordshire County Council’s Historic Environment Team to provide further information on the potential archaeological resource within the site. Works will be carried out during typical standard working hours, from Monday to Friday, and will not impact the Public Rights of Way which cross the site, which will remain open throughout the works.

This webpage will be kept up to date with any further details of the trial trenching works.
